THE
HUMBERSTON HAPPENING COMMITTEE
THE HUMBERSTON CHRISTMAS HAPPENING
The Humberston Christmas Happening took place on Friday 12th.
December 2008. Santa toured the streets of Humberston on his illuminated, musical
sleigh, much to the delight of the hundreds of children (and parents and grandparents)
who came out to meet him.
Everyone gave him a wave, many handed Santa letters to him
and the whole event provided a taste of traditional festive atmosphere.
After a six mile walk through the village, Santa and his helpers
were warmly welcomed in the local hostelries. The Country Club, The Pear Tree,
Lucarly's, The Grosvenor, The Coach House, The Countryman and The Trawlerman
were all visited during a memorable evening, made all the better by the kind
weather.
The Humberston Happening Committee would take this opportunity
of thanking everyone who supported the event so enthusiastically. The street
collection raised over seven hundred and fifty pounds; a creditable result in
view of the current economic gloom. The money raised is to be divided between
the Humberston Special School Hydrotherapy Pool Appeal (to help with the maintenance
and running costs of this excellent and much needed facility) and the Caistor
Lions Organisation.
Santa received, and was pleased to reply to, over one hundred
letters and several e-mails.
Thanks must also go to the Caistor Lions for "loaning" their
wonderful sleigh once again, to Office Friends in Grimsby for supplying the
programmes as always, and to Amvale Coaches in Grimsby for "donating" their
luxurious coach for the evening.
The Humberston Christmas Happening Santa Sleigh Ride is a true
charity event. None of the above makes any charge for the goods and/or services
provided. The Humberston Happening Committee provides the "give-aways" from
it's own funds. Please be assured that every penny donated goes directly to
the nominated charities.
The Humberston Happening Committee members deserve great credit
for the work they put into this enjoyable community event by delivering the
programmes beforehand and walking with the sleigh on the night. This year, as
in previous years, they were most grateful to many others who so kindly came
along, joined in the spirit and helped.
May we end with two "appeals" of our own ? If anyone has any
photos or video footage of the sleigh which they would be prepared to let us
have a copy of, please e-mail us with details. Also, we would really like to
hear from anyone who could spare just a few hours a year by delivering programmes
or walking with the sleigh. It would lessen the burden on our small group and
ensure the continuity of this popular event.
